From which of the following bands is amateur radio contesting generally excluded?
Why By long-standing voluntary agreement among contest sponsors and the IARU, the WARC bands added in 1979 (30, 17 and 12 meters) plus 60 meters are kept free of contest activity. The 30 meter band is especially protected because it is only 50 kHz wide, is limited to CW and data, and amateurs are secondary there to other services. Contest sponsors will not accept logs with 30 meter contacts, and the exclusion is a custom rather than an FCC rule.
Watch out 6 meters, 70 centimeters and 33 centimeters all see plenty of contest activity, including VHF/UHF contests where those bands are the whole point.
No contests on the WARC bands: 30, 17 and 12 meters. Only 30 m appears as a choice here.
